So why should I pay more for a service I initially expected to come free with the $80 device? I only purchased it for streaming media from my PC to a tv for the little one. So, my initial reaction was I would take it back (to the retail store) and trade it in for a WD live TV instead being I don't really use the TV services plex has. I received a notification on the device stating I needed to purchase the app. Plex stopped working on my Roku 2 after about a month of use. I read that there was a beta Roku channel called NokNok that could work with Serviio, but it appears to have been abandoned. I did try another media streaming channel on Roku, though for the life of me I can't remember the name now. Nevertheless, I would still recommend Plex for Roku users unless someone can suggest an alternative that works well on Roku specifically. I spent a fair bit of time fixing things. There are a few other media servers out there, but I have stuck with Serviio since it’s free and it has been nothing but reliable for me. This can be really nice and convenient if you have a large amount of digital data and allows you to store it in one place but still be accessible and easily backed up. The Serviio application itself is completely free and allows you to stream all of your pictures, video and music from a pc directly to any DLNA supported device via local network or wireless. I have been running my own media server for a few years now and it really has become a part of our entertainment system.
